Today was a nice quiet summer day in CT until we hiked by a racetrack
in the valley below. For a country that imports most of it's oil,
nothing is quite as patriotic as guys doing circles in their own
carbon fumes. Some day we'll look back at the recreational waste of
fossil fuels as a "what were we thinking" time in our history. Few
people see that now though. What a shame.

Happy Birthday USA! I'm glad to hear that everything is going well. If my class's calculations are correct, you're going to finish with plenty of time to rest up before school starts again in the fall...or at least a few days. Keep up the great work!
Happy Independence Day! Hope you actually get some sleep tonight!
car races have a positive effect on the economy but have a terrible carbon footprint... think about it - a million people go to a race. Lets say the average distance they drive is 100 miles per person in a can that gets 25 miles per gallon. That's 4 million gallons of gasoline per race (not including the cars involved in the race). I watch from home.
It is the 'someday' part that humans have a hard time with, from what we did for recreation to how we thought of other humans to our cultural choices.
We look back and wonder how we could have thought slavery was okay, that woman were the 'weaker' sex, that pitting animals, whether dogs or roosters, was okay, that putting depressed people in darkened, solitary rooms to help their disease, or that women should be covered from head to toe to go swimming--what were we thinking?!?
We need people who can move us to where we need to go, even if it's talking about something that so many Americans might believe in- like car races.
Keep on trekking, and hopefully we'll all catch up some day!
car i mean not can
Chad, We continue to enjoy your progress updates. Hope you had a great 4th of July.
